Where Your Recycled Waste Oil Eventually Ends Up

From oil used to lubricate machinery to hydraulic and even cooking oil, there are a lot of different forms of oil that need to be recycled on a regular basis. But after this oil is passed through the many procedures it has to go through to be filtered, where does it end up? This is a common question that many companies have when they are considering hiring a waste oil recycling contractor. If you want to make sure your recycled oil s going to the right places, then here is a quick rundown of what happens once it leaves your property.

1. Collection and Processing

First of all, once you sign up to a waste oil recycling service your oil will be collected every month (or quicker if needed). Then, it is taking to the refinery where it can be put through all manner of different filtration procedures, such as de-watering, propane de-asphalting, demineralisation and distillation. This is to remove all of the properties in your oil that are not naturally occurring, such as any rust flakes, water or chemical additives. Once the waste oil recycling process has been completed to a satisfactory level, the oil can then be repackaged and used again.

2. Reusing the Oil

Oil does not lose its properties, so once it is recycled it can be used for virtually whatever you want. Sometimes recycled oil is used to power large, industrial ovens and dryers. Othertimes the recycled oil may be used for its original purpose. Often, companies will use recycled waste oil as an ingredient in things like bitumen or plastics where you don't necessarily need a very high grade of oil. So, while oil that comes from recycling plants is generally not used in the same, more visible areas that brand new oil is, that is not because of it being lesser quality but simply a stigma against recycled oil. This is slowly changing.

3. How Do You Sign Up?

If you want to change your current waste oil disposal to a waste oil recycling plant, then all you need to do is locate the closest one to you. Often the waste oil recycling contractor will do both recycling and non-recycling treatment, it is simply a matter of choosing the right service. Always make sure to double-check that the waste oil recycling plant can handle your particular oil. Usually, this is not a problem, but it never hurts to be on the safe side. The last thing you want is for your first pick-up to be refused. Clear and open communication is the best way for everyone involved to get a satisfactory end result.
